Retired Military
My wife was taken to the Misericordia Hospital with heart failure on January 17, 2024. In the emergency room she felt she was overly exposed during the admission process and was left with little dignity. She was transferred to the old emergency unit waiting for a bed, during her stay there she wanted to see a Catholic priest which was blocked by the staff on duty at the time. The chaplain in the hospital arrived and was unable to see my wife and was given a lot of negative attitude.
My wife was finally transferred to the 7th. floor to treat her condition, the Doctors and nurses were good to her and she was treated well.
My issue with the treatment was to lack of cleanness in the area and the room in general. She was unable to go the washroom and had a bedside toilet that was very seldom cleaned even when it was brought to the attention of the nurses.
On more than one times when the nurses were asked to dump the portable toilet the bag was just taken and deposited in the garbage pail in the next patients area.
The table she used to eat her meals was not cleaned by the staff in the 5 day period she stayed there.
There was an infestation of bed bugs in the patients bed across from my wife and this was of concern to us.
In my opinion the hospital is required to take a good look at the cleaning of patients areas and general cleaning practice’s in the hospital.
